What is Head Shadow?

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF A GEM IS QUALITY OR NOT?

Head shadow may not be a familiar term to everyone that purchases gemstones. This may cause a person to be uncomfortable because they don’t understand the terminology. It is really very simple and I hope this will clarify and make it clear. When gemologists or faceters talk about head shadow they are referring to the shadow our heads cast onto a gem when it is examined close up, approximately 10 inches to 14 inches distance from the viewers eye to the gem. Our Most Recent Faceting Design Book

OUR MOST RECENT FACETING DESIGN BOOK ISN’T A BOOK, IT’S A CD-ROM!

We were asked to publish a new faceting design book by many who had previously purchased our other faceting design books. Because the market for such a book is rather small we looked for a more cost effective way of producing such a book. The solution was to produce a book on CD-Rom in PDF format. Customers don’t have to own GemCad and can chose to print the entire book or they can simply print just those designs they want to cut. The choice is theirs.

We were warned by other designers years ago to never sell designs on disk. However, we have always broken new ground in the faceting community and don’t follow what we consider BAD ADVICE...

Faceting Class Information

Having moved and downsized we are pleased to announce that we are once again offering our five day beginner faceting classes and customized classes for those who need a refresher or a class to address special issues.

We provide everything you will need for classes including daily lunch and a book to take home at the end of the class.

Most students complete at least three stones in five days, some complete more. We will teach at the speed you are comfortable learning at.

We are close to Cleveland International and Akron/Canton Airports. There is a Quality Inn Motel very close to us.
